DIY zero waste laundry detergent (recipe)

November 28, 2017

*Meeep, I'll be circling back this week and adding my photos to this post! Until then, here's the recipe I use!

.......................

○ 2 castile soap bars (I use 'Kirk's original coco castile' since it's cheaper at my local shop but Dr. Bronners is common and okay too! You can use unscented or scented if you'd like a scented detergent)

○ 3 cups washing soda (or DIY from baking soda (below))

○ 3 cups borax

○ (optional) essential oil drops (Or opt for scented castle soaps like Dr. Bronners' scented bars)

TIPS :: All ingredients super easy to find at your local grocery stores or health food stores!

○ Look for castile soap in a paper wrapping or in bulk.

○ Look for both washing soda/baking soda and borax in a paper carton (most common) or in bulk (if possible)

.............................

1. grate the bars of soap (in a food processor or else-wise)

2. prep washing soda if doing DIY washing soda from baking soda (below)

3. mix all ingredients together and voila!

4. (optional) mix together in a blender/flour blender to make a dust-like powder (easier to dissolve in the water)

option 01 :: buy washing soda (in paper box)

option 02 :: bake baking soda on a baking tray at 400 °F (pour out about 0.5 - 1 inch layer on the tray) for 1hr. Stir every once and a while. Take out once it gets more grainy looking (not so powdery).
